Final Project
Week 6
Me and my friend Angelina decided to team up for this stop motion project and we both sort of had the same idea which was including gore inside. So, our initial idea was :
- A backpack
- City
Then the backpack is like a monster so whenever he eats, he grows bigger, something like a giant ransacking the city kind of story. But we got our feedback which was, it'll be hard for us to make the bag grow in size and to be tall the the city. So, we had to change our idea.
Week 7
We did our animatics and final storyline breakdown because the next week is our presentation. So, our storyline breakdown is :
Act 1
Set up
Characters :
Backpack (Black, googly eyes)
Owner (Irfan)
Stationeries
Environment
Bedroom/Study room
Backpack lying next to table
Inciting Incident
Owner goes drinking
Backpack starts moving
Eating everything up
Plot Point 1
(music rises, tension)
Door clicks, backpack stops in tracks, object from its mouth falls
Owner comes in drunk
Wobbles in room, falls asleep on bed
Once snoring, backpack starts again
Act 2
Midpoint
(Camera focus at owner sleeping, backpack pov) *backpack eating noises in bg*
Sun rises on owner (timelapse) and backpack burps and stops
Plot Point 2
Owner finds bits and pieces of pen, paper, etc,(not bothered about it) and casually searches backpack for something
Act 3
Crisis
While searching backpack, it got angry and fight scene between backpack and owner. Backpack leaves scratch on owner’s hand then owner takes nearby umbrella and beats it to death. Blood pours out and all the stationery comes out.
Backpack lays limp on floor, as if no life.
Climax
(Camera pans out, owner in shock that backpack was alive and quickly runs out of room.)
Week 8
Then, we did our presentation ideas in class and we were told that we can proceed. However, Mr. Martin told us to add more attempts on the backpack trying to nibble and bite the human. So, we refined our idea and we're discussing on when to start.
Week 9
We started filming our scenes along with our friend who volunteered to help.
We continued filming this week.
After compiling it, we felt that it wasn't as smooth as we wanted it to be. This is because :
1. Human energy
- It's hard for a person to stay still for a period of time so certain shots tend to be slightly blurry
2. Consistency
- Every movements a human makes can be a huge difference so certain part of the scene, the movement is too big that it actually looks weird.
3. Big objects
- We were not prepared for a bag to be so heavy that we need a very thick wire, so it was hard to coordinate nicely especially since we are using life size objects and actual human.
Week 11
After much consideration, we decided to change our storyboard because our previous idea turned out ugly. So, me and my partner started to plan out what are we going to do and we ended up with this idea :
- Human sleeping
- Parts of the slime starts to drip like water from the ceiling and hit the humans face
- Then, it forms into an actual slime
- Eats all the furniture
- Forms into a puddle and human wakes up
- Steps on the slime and slime eats his limbs
- Human tries to escape and ended up being eaten by the slime
- Slime imitates the form of the human
- Sleeps on his bed
Week 12
We started filming again and only made it half of the video due to natural lighting that we needed for our stop motion. We filmed from morning until afternoon around 5pm.
Week 13
Then, we filmed the other half of the video and it became a great success because it looks like how we wanted it to be.
After that we compiled the video to see how it is as we were told to present for our class on the next week.
Week 14
After showing our video, we compiled all of the sound effects we have founded and color graded to see how it goes.
